Dr. Brian Frandsen and his team believe that a clean mouth and good oral health form the foundation of a beautiful smile. Even patients who are vigilant in their daily oral care routines should visit the dentist twice a year for a professional examination and cleaning. Dr. Frandsen can ensure that your teeth receive the care they need through regular checkups, professional cleanings, and quality treatment.
In addition, Dr. Frandsen performs tooth extractions only when necessary. However, he refers wisdom tooth and larger extraction cases to other trusted dental professionals. Dr. Frandsen provides the following general dental treatments:
Brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings are vital to preventing gum disease. When regular brushing and flossing are neglected, bacteria can build up and form plaque, which can harden and turn to tartar. The bacteria in tartar can inflame the gums, eventually causing the gum disease gingivitis, which is characterized by red, swollen, bleeding gums. If not treated, gingivitis can evolve into periodontitis, in which connective tissue and bone around the teeth are broken down by bacterial toxins. Eventually, periodontitis can weaken a tooth's structure to the point that the tooth needs to be extracted. In addition, recent studies have linked gum disease to hardening of the arteries and other serious health threats.
If you have gum disease, Dr. Frandsen can treat it at any stage of development by controlling the infection. He uses deep cleaning methods to remove tartar buildup both above and below the gum line; without the bacteria present in tartar, your gums will be able to heal to a much healthier state. He may also use a special medication to help reduce the level of infection.
Endodontic therapy deals with the interior of the tooth itself, which contains nerves and blood vessels referred to collectively as dental pulp. If this pulp becomes infected or diseased by bacteria, it can lead to pain, swelling of the gums, and the eventual death of the tooth. We can save a tooth with infected pulp by performing root canal (endodontic) therapy. Dr. Frandsen will first remove the tooth pulp through a passage created in the top surface of the tooth, and then clean and disinfect the root canal. Once any trace of infection has been removed from the root canal, he will seal the tooth so that it will be protected. A customized dental crown is then constructed for the treated tooth and placed at a subsequent appointment.
Many children are afraid of going to the dentist for the first time, often because they don't know what to expect. What children encounter at the office of Dr. Brian Frandsen is a warm, caring environment filled with people whose goal is to reduce their anxiety and make them feel at ease. Our compassionate, friendly dentist and staff work to give children a pleasant, even fun dental experience while giving them the care they need to grow up with healthy teeth and good oral hygiene habits.
Fluoride treatment is an important aspect of a child's dental care because, as a vital mineral, fluoride protects tooth enamel and helps guard against tooth decay. The ages between which primary and permanent teeth come in – specifically, between the ages of six months and sixteen years – represent the most crucial time for children to be exposed to fluoride. In addition to fluoride toothpastes and mouthwashes, Dr. Frandsen can apply fluoride to teeth in-office in a higher concentration, remineralizing and strengthening your child's teeth.
In addition to fluoride treatment, we offer sealants to help protect your children's teeth. Sealants are a thin plastic coating which is painted onto the grooved chewing surfaces of the teeth to create a barrier between the tooth enamel and harmful bacteria. This barrier prevents tooth decay from developing in the areas of the teeth where bacteria and food collect. Placing sealants shortly after your child's first permanent molars come in (at around age six) helps keep them from forming cavities. Second permanent molars come in closer to age twelve, and sealants are a good idea then, as well. Sealants last for up to five years and are effective at preventing tooth decay as long they remain intact.
